New Products For July 2013

These Receivers Are Bluetooth® Enabled

Prospec’s Bluetooth

Bluetooth® technology has become a part of many boaters’ lifestyles. Prospec Electronics has responded by developing products that incorporate Bluetooth audio streaming. Three products are the Milennia MILPRV21, JBL MBB2020 and Infinity INFPRV250 receivers.

With Bluetooth technology, wired connections are reduced, as this form of technology utilizes radio waves for communication. This helps eliminate clutter and cost, while also reducing installation times.

Prospec’s Bluetooth-enabled devices are not specific to one brand of media and the average range of operability is 30 feet. Users can also control tracks and volume of the Bluetooth stereo through their media device. In practical form, when fishing at the bow of the boat, a user’s media device now controls the stereo.

Having to constantly steer a kicker or wheel for course adjustments while trolling can prevent boaters from fully enjoying time on the water. Intellisteer wireless steering packages from Canada Metal (Pacific) put steering control into a handheld pendant.

Intellisteer offers push-button steering at trolling speeds for freedom while fishing or cruising. The receiver/motor controller has overload protection and reverse polarity protection.

Designed for do-it-yourself installation, the ergonomic, water-resistant, wireless pendant with lanyard offers simple one-handed operation for steering from anywhere aboard.

Suggested retail prices for Intellisteer wireless steering packages begin at $299. Products are supported by a one-year limited warranty on the electronics, and a two-year limited warranty on the drive units.

“On The Hard In Paradise”

On the hard in paradise

In her new book, “On the Hard in Paradise,” Connie Fleenor takes her readers to the Virgin Islands to answer the question: “What would it be like to ‘up sticks’ and move to a Caribbean island?”

Fleenor describes her experiences of a year living on a catamaran with her husband and son. She rode swells to pristine beaches and dove into the blue water of Cokie Beach, stumbled into squalid neighborhoods and walked with crowds of tourists during events such as the annual chili cookoff.

She recorded an exhilarating weekend spent on her yacht Take Two during the Rolex Regatta and stepped onto the deck of the famous floating nightspot, Willie T.

Published by Mangrove Books, this book is priced at $12.95, ISBN: 978-0-9846750-0-5.

Secure Fenders With Sleek Hardware

Secure Fenders

Making repetitive tasks simpler is something Accon Marine always does well. The company’s 401-R Fender Hanger is no exception. This sleek piece of hardware secures fenders, while eliminating the need to fasten and unfasten them.

The Fender Hanger’s base stays attached to the boat, while the post stays attached to the fender. Then, users only have to snap the Hanger into place when needed. It easily releases when not in use.

Accon’s Fender Hanger is available with a 1-inch or .5-inch diameter loop to fit most fenders.

No cut outs are required and installation is simple. This Fender Hanger mounts on a boat’s surface with two #10 screws.

Accon Marine’s 40-R Fender Hanger has a price of $32.61.

Folding Nav Light Mounting Base

Folding Nav Light Mounting Base

A navigation light mounting base that folds adds versatility and simplifies the operation and care of a boat. Perko’s rail mount bases offer fold-down convenience and fit 3/4-inch diameter horizontal rails, with other sizes available.

Perko’s Figure 1628 perpendicular rail mount base attaches in a transverse direction to the railing, so that any attached light folds at a right angle as well.

For applications that require a lateral fold, Perko offers the Figure 1627 axial or in-line rail mount base. This base mounts in the same direction as the railing, so that any attached light folds parallel to it.

Both rail mount bases are constructed of durable black polymer and include clamping/mounting screws for installation. Prices start around $54.
