A boater himself for over 50 years, Don Abbott brings his expertise to every page of Bay and Delta Yachtsman magazine. A former sail and power boat broker in Hawaii and the Bay Area, Don is sensitive to the needs of advertisers as well as consumers.
Ty Mellott discovered his passion for boating growing up on Seminoe Reservoir in Wyoming. After graduating from Hanna Elk Mountain High School, he served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Missouri (BB-63), where the ship’s 1986 re-commissioning in San Francisco sparked his love for the Bay & Delta region.
After being honorably discharged as a Second Class Petty Officer, Ty attended college and worked for Delta Airlines in Southern California and Florida before joining Recreation Publications in 1997. Since then, he has been a key member of the Bay & Delta Yachtsman team, focusing on advertising sales while also contributing as Co-Publisher, cover photographer, and occasional feature writer.
A dedicated advocate for the boating community, Ty served nine years on the Northern California Marine Association Board, including one year as President. He has also been a member of the California Delta Chambers & Visitors Bureau Board for nearly two decades, serving multiple terms as President, and recently completed a two-and-a-half-year commitment as Executive Director of the California Yacht Brokers Association.
An avid boater, Ty continues to use his boat as often as possible and will forever champion the preservation and vitality of the Delta.
JP is a Northern Nevada native who first came to work for Recreation Publications back in 1994 in the Art Department as the Art Director. After pursuing other interests and leaving in 2006, Recreation Publications is happy to have him back since early 2013.
JP now serves as office manager as well as the advertising coordinator. His past knowledge and experience in the art department is invaluable in dealing with day to day questions regarding layout and design.
A father of two boys, JP spends his free time watching them play sports and finding new fishing spots to enjoy his favorite pastime.
