Upgrading To Quality Folding Cleats Is Simple
Retractable cleats enhance the safety and appearance of any boat, but their required deck cut-outs may not be possible if there are bulkheads, electrical runs or other elements beneath. An easy DIY alternative is the Surface Mount Folding Cleat from Accon Marine. It offers similar operation to Accon’s patented Pop-Up Cleat by springing into action when needed, yet needs no cutting for installation.
Made from marine-grade cast 316 stainless steel for extreme corrosion resistance and exceptional durability, the Surface Mount Folding Cleat comes in 3.5-inch, 4.5-inch, 6-inch and 8-inch sizes. Stud-mount and through-bolted versions suit almost any installation scenario. A spring-loaded mechanism locks the Accon cleat down when not in use, then flips it up into action with the push of a button.
Installation takes just minutes and requires only a drill, painter’s tape and a screwdriver. Simply tape the installation site to protect against scratches and mark the drill holes using the supplied template. Once the holes have been made, carefully secure the cleat in place. Surface Mount Folding Cleats from Accon Marine are a quick and easy way to upgrade the look, functionality and safety of any boat. MSRP starts at $52.55 for the 3.5-inch through-bolted model.

Smartplug Debuts Shoreside Receptacles And Weather Doors
The inherent safety features SmartPlug electrical receptacles are known for are now available in configurations for the shoreside connection. These new models from SmartPlug Systems simplify power pedestal upgrades at marinas and enable use in standard outdoor electrical boxes for the private dock owner. They’re offered in 30A, 125V and 50A, 125/250V versions, with optional separate weather doors.
Traditional twist-type AC shore power connectors rely on thin, easily corroded blades for a connection – both on the boat and shoreside. With a unique pin and clip design, SmartPlug offers 20 times the metal-to-metal contact for maximum electrical transfer. More importantly, this drastically reduces the likelihood of arcing and overheating, which are leading causes of marina and boat fires.
The SmartPlug is designed to self-align and push straight in, making it especially easy for transient boaters to use in unfamiliar marinas at night. As the connection is made, the device cleans itself. The plug automatically locks securely into the receptacle.
SmartPlug Weather Doors are available in vertical and horizontal configurations, with 50A knockouts. Like the receptacles, industry-standard sizing and hole patterns make installation easy, whether into a pedestal or outdoor electrical box.

Marine Receiver Boasts Almost Any COnceivable Input Type
Engineered to overcome any weather thrown at it, few AM/FM/WB marine receivers can match the Infinity by Harman model REFPRV415 from Prospec Electronics. IP67-rated (front) and NMEA2000-ready, it boasts a wide range of audio input methods to ensure everyone on board can play their favorite music.
The REFPRV415 has a USB port that doubles as a charging station. Made for iPod® and iPhone®, it displays album artwork on its 3.5-inch color TFT screen. A 3.5mm aux input connects a broad array of audio players and the device streams music with ID tagging via Bluetooth. A versatile receiver, it brings in AM, FM, weather band and SiriusXM® signals (SiriusXM materials purchased separately). A video input allows users to see into a baitwell, the rear view or wherever a compatible camera has been installed.
Unlike some marine stereos, the Infinity by Harman REFPRV415 from Prospec Electronics is designed for easy, intuitive use. It has an adjustable backlighting control to optimize the device for daylight and nighttime.
The Infinity by Harman REFPRV415 has an internal amplifier with 4x50W peak power @ 4 ohms and is 2 ohm stable. For expandability, such as the addition of an amplifier for more power, this stereo incorporates three pairs of pre-outs.
Additional key features include being NMEA2000-compatible and wired remote-ready. Compatible remotes include the KAPMC40, INFREM1, and MIL-REM80. With the optional MIL-LEDPWR module, the stereo allows a boater to control speaker lighting and other forms of LED lighting directly through the source unit’s faceplate.
