New Compact Courtesy Light Is Also Waterproof

High-quality marine lighting is essential for safety anywhere aboard. Dark steps and corners, dim compartments and work areas all present potential hazards. The new CLX RGBW LED Courtesy Light from Shadow-Caster is waterproof to increase visibility above deck and compact for accenting below, without the bulk of standard flush mount fixtures.

The front-facing 12V DC CLX Courtesy Light produces 80 lumens of true white light, as well as full RGB color. It draws only 80mA per channel, with a 320mA maximum current. The unique design provides bright, even illumination without glare.

At only 3-inches L x 1-inch W x 0.32-inch H, the CLX Courtesy Light offers both an extremely low profile and small footprint. The unique UV-stabilized polycarbonate housing and rugged 316 stainless steel polished bezel boast soft, rounded edges. The fixture has a 5-conductor RGBW wire and mounts with two included #6 stainless steel screws.

Light intensity and color are easily changed through a controller. Shadow-Caster’s award-winning Light Commander PLUS gives users fingertip control over CLX Courtesy Lights. Through networked NMEA 2000 multifunction displays or ethernet devices, additional interior, exterior and navigation lighting can also be controlled. The Shadow-Caster CLX RGBW LED Courtesy Light sells for $39.95 and comes with a three-year warranty.

In Dense Fog Or Rain, Dash Compass Comes In Handy

When rain or fog limits visibility, responsible helmsmen reduce their speed. This is when the Ritchie Navigation Explorer Dash Mount magnetic compass really comes in handy. It displays an accurate heading while motoring slowly or even when stopped – something electronic navigation can’t do.

Made in the USA, the Explorer Dash Mount features a black or white 2.75-inch direct-read dial. Contrasting 5° marks, 30° numbers and bold cardinal directives are clearly visible against a bright red or yellow lubber line. The dial sits on a scientifically matched sapphire jewel, atop a hardened steel pivot movement. Built-in 12V lighting aids in navigating in reduced visibility.

The bezels of the available black or white Ritchie Navigation Explorer Dash Mount compass match most popular gauge packages. Locating the compass at centerline is ideal, but it can be viewed at an angle of up to 30°. Built-in compensators adjust deviation, if installed on a metal boat or near steel objects. A 3-inch hole is required for installation.

The Explorer Dash Mount magnetic compass from Ritchie Navigation is 100% repairable, comes with a 5-year warranty and costs $81.33.

The Next Generation Of Marine Surface Protection Debuts

Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a tight lattice. What makes it so important to boat owners is twofold: Firstly, Glidecoat ALPHA with graphene outlasts competing products – independent testing has shown it maintains its extraordinary properties for up to two years. Secondly, it cures harder than traditional ceramic coatings. These attributes make it ideal for solid boat surfaces such as gelcoat, paint, clearcoat, glass, and bare and powder-coated metals.

Glidecoat ALPHA is the next generation of pro-level ceramic marine surface protection. Infused with graphene, it delivers significant improvements in durability, hydrophobics and shine longevity over conventional boat coatings, yet maintains the ease of application Glidecoat is known for. The product debuted at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 25-29, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Engineered specifically for a marine environment, Glidecoat ALPHA is extremely hydrophobic. It has a water contact angle greater than 100° and a shedding angle of 30°. Rain and rinse water effortlessly run off the surface, making the boat more resistant to stains, less prone to water spots and easier to maintain. The silky-smooth finish makes it hard for dirt, dust and grime to adhere, too. And with UV protection integral to the formula, oxidation and sun damage are dramatically reduced.

Finally, color definition is improved with Glidecoat ALPHA. The innovative formula increases surface gloss by as much as 10%. This enhances the depth and richness of white, black and colored hulls while delivering a hard, mirror-like protective shine.

Applying Glidecoat ALPHA is straightforward. After washing and fully prepping the surface, the entire boat should be cleaned with Glidecoat Surface Wipe; this will remove any residual contaminants. After the bottle is thoroughly shaken, 5-10 drops of the formula are placed on a sponge. This is then applied to a 3-foot x 3-foot area with an up-down, side-to-side pattern. After 30 seconds to a minute, the coating is buffed by hand with a microfiber towel. A second wiping with a clean microfiber towel ensures the material is smooth, consistent and free of any excess coating. The second coat can be applied in as soon as an hour. The material fully cures in 24 hours.

Highly concentrated, 160ml of Glidecoat ALPHA covers 192 sq. ft. and is sufficient for a 20-foot boat with the suggested two coats. It’s offered in 30ml, 50ml, 120ml, 160ml and 250ml quantities. MSRP ranges from $79 to $365.
